How It All Started

Hey, I’m Chris Barry.

I’m the CEO of TD Coach, but before I ever built a business, I was just someone trying to figure things out. I had big dreams, a strong work ethic, and a vision of the life I wanted to create, but like many people, I had no clear roadmap to get there. I knew I wanted more—more freedom, more fulfillment, and more impact—but I didn’t know what path would take me there.

What I did know was that I wasn’t willing to settle.

At 18 years old, I left Southern California, where I had lived my whole life, and moved to Rome, Italy for my first semester of college. For the first time ever, I was on my own—traveling, exploring, learning how to cook for myself, and experiencing a completely new way of life. I remember thinking, this is it. This is what I want my life to look like.

I didn’t want to be tied to a desk or stuck in one place. I wanted the freedom to travel, meet new people, and experience the world—while doing something meaningful and making good money in the process. I had no idea how I was going to do it, but I knew one thing: I wasn’t willing to settle for anything less.

That decision sent me down a path of trying everything to figure out how to make money while maintaining the freedom I wanted. I tried stock trading, real estate investing, startups—anything that had the potential to work. Some of it was interesting, some of it was a complete waste of time, but none of it felt like the right fit.

Then, I stumbled across high-ticket sales. To put it simply, I was selling expensive services for other companies. And while I was figuring that out, I discovered coaching.

My first step into the coaching space was as an appointment setter—booking calls for coaches and helping them connect with potential clients. Within six weeks, I had already contributed to $30,000 in revenue. That’s when I knew there was something here.

From there, I transitioned into closing sales, and in just two months, I sold $120,000 worth of coaching programs.

Then, the next logical step hit me—why stop at being a salesperson when I could build an entire sales system for coaches? I started my own sales agency, partnering with coaches to train and manage their sales teams.

In the firs two months, we brought in $200,000 in sales. That’s when it all clicked. I wasn’t just good at sales—I understood how to build the systems that make coaching businesses thrive.

That success opened the door to something even bigger. I joined a sales training program. I started as a part-time coach, moved up to head of delivery, then took over operations. Over the next two years, we built a massive team, opened a facility, and scaled to over $10 million in revenue.

We grew so fast that we were named the 332nd fastest-growing company on the Inc. 5000 list.

By this point, I had seen behind the scenes of hundreds of coaching businesses—the ones that thrived and the ones that struggled. And I noticed a pattern.

The coaches who struggled weren’t lacking in expertise. They were incredible at what they did. But they didn’t have the right systems, sales process, or client acquisition strategy to scale their business in a way that actually worked.

And that’s when I knew what I needed to do next.
